Over at Tan Tock Seng Hospital, there are 3 Career Development Tracks available to establish structured career progression for our medical staff. This provides doctors with proper career progression tracks that will allow them to pursue career goals according to their different interests and competencies, and actualize their full potential.
The 3 Career Development Tracks available are as follows:
SPECIALIST TRACK
This track is for fully qualified, accredited specialists who are passionate about driving clinical excellence, leading specialized services, and shaping the future of advanced medicine. Medical professionals who have completed their formal specialist training, attained their specialist accreditation (such as Ministry of Health / Specialist Accreditation Board recognition or equivalent international fellowship), and are ready to practice at the Consultant level can look forward to taking charge of complex clinical cases, direct specialized clinical services, and provide high-level diagnostic, procedural, and therapeutic expertise.
Beyond clinical mastery, specialists may complement their clinical practice with opportunities to spearhead cutting-edge clinical research, nurture the next generation of healthcare professionals through teaching and mentorship, transform healthcare through innovation and shape institutional clinical policies.
- RESIDENT PHYSICIAN TRACK
This track is suited for experienced and dedicated clinicians who have chosen to remain in broad-based clinical practice. As core pillars of hospital-based care, Resident Physicians anchor comprehensive inpatient, acute-to-subacute medical care within a hospital setting. Beyond delivering core inpatient care, Resident Physicians are given opportunities to contribute in other areas of healthcare which includes driving innovation, patient safety standards, optimizing hospital workflows and mentoring the next generation of healthcare professionals. Resident Physicians will progress through structured, merit-based milestones to Senior Resident Physician and Principal Resident Physician.
- FAMILY PHYSICIAN TRACK
This track is suited for qualified and experienced Family Medicine Practitioners who are passionate about primary and community care, population health, and seamless care integration across the continuum. Family Physicians in the institution spearhead population health initiatives, oversee the implementation of comprehensive clinical care programmes, research, and partnerships to bridge the hospital and community. Contributions in other areas of healthcare include driving innovation and mentoring the next generation of healthcare professionals. Expanded responsibilities, experience and higher qualifications will transition Family Physicians to Senior Family Physicians, Consultant Family Physicians and Senior Consultant Family Physicians.
Nursing
Enrolled Nurses (EN) and Registered Nurses (RN) work hand in hand in the care delivery process.
Career Opportunities
Registered Nurse (RN): The RN will assess, plan, implement and evaluate care for patients under their care. With their competencies and knowledge, they perform and follow up with prescribed treatments and procedures to meet the patients' physical and emotional needs. They collaborate and cooperate with other healthcare professionals for a smooth delivery of care and services.
Enrolled Nurse (EN): The EN will assist the RN in the care delivery process. They plan and coordinate basic nursing care independently, and assist the RN and other healthcare professionals in the procedure, treatment and examination of the patient. They also provide related caregiver training so that patients receive appropriate care after discharge.

General Career Progression
Pharmacists
Provides safe, efficient and timely distribution (dispensing) of drugs, review and deliver drug therapy to achieve optimal pharmacotherapy outcome for patients.

Pharmacy Assistants / Technicians
Serve as the vital link between pharmacy services and patients through frontline interactions and backend operations. Handle patient enquiries, financial counselling, and medication verification whilst ensuring accurate prescription processing and inventory management to support seamless pharmaceutical care delivery.

Career Conversion
Enrolled Nurses (EN) and Registered Nurses (RN) work hand in hand in the care delivery process.
The Professional Conversion Programme (PCP) initiated by the Workforce Singapore (WSG) is designed to help Professionals, Managers, Executives and Technicians (PMETs) acquire new skills or to make a career switch and find a job in the growing sectors.
