INSTRUCTIONS FOR DAY SURGERY / SAME DAY ADMISSION / AS23
(admission on day of surgery)
REPORTING FOR ADMISSION
- Report to: Day Surgery Centre, Level 3, Medical Centre
ONE WORKING DAY BEFORE SURGERY: Operating Theatre staff will call you in the afternoon between 2pm – 5pm to confirm the time of arrival and fasting instructions.
If you do not receive our phone call by 5pm, please call 6357 1524 (between 5pm - 6.30pm).
Punctuality is very important to avoid delays in surgery.
REGISTRATION FOR ADMISSION
It is advisable that an adult accompanies you when you report to the centre for admission. All important documents and valuables will be returned to the accompanying person after registration and admission.
SAME DAY ADMISSION
You will be admitted to an Inpatient ward after surgery. Your ward/bed number may not be available at the time of registration. Our staff will contact your family once this information is available.
AMBULATORY SURGERY 23 HOURS
You will be admitted to a Day Surgery ward. An adult must accompany you home on the following day morning, before 9 am. Should you be unfit for discharge or need further treatment, you may be transferred to an inpatient ward. The class status of the ward for your admission will be based on your AS23 class status.
- DAY SURGERY PROCEDURE
You will be discharged on the same day after surgery. An adult must accompany you home if you have undergone sedation, regional or general anaesthesia.
Should your doctor decide that you are unfit for discharge or need further treatment, you may be admitted to the AS23 ward or transferred to an inpatient ward.
INSTRUCTIONS FOR PRE-ADMISSION ELECTIVE
(admission 1 day before surgery)
REPORTING FOR ADMISSION
You will be admitted to the inpatient ward through Admission Office before surgery.
ONE WORKING DAY BEFORE SURGERY: TTSH will SMS you to remind you on the date and time of admission.
If you do not receive any reminder by 2pm on the day of admission, please contact 6357 8899.
DOCUMENTS TO BRING FOR REGISTRATION
- TTSH Outpatient Appointment Card.
- Identity Card / Passport / Work Permit / Birth Certificate.
- Civil Service Card / Public Service Card (CSC / PS Card).
- Medical Benefit Identity Memo (MBIM) for SAF Personnel.
- Singapore Blood Transfusion Service Medical Benefit Card.
- Letter of Guarantee (LOG). The LOG must have at least 30 days’ validity, with hardcopy brought on the day of surgery. Without the LOG, a cash deposit will be required.
- Hospital Identity or Admission Card (HIC / HAC).
- Public Assistance Card / Medical Exemption Card / Rent and Utilities Assistance Scheme Card
- To bring along any personal X-ray films/ medical reports as required by the surgeon (Whichever is applicable).
COSMETIC ENHANCEMENTS WHEN ARRIVING FOR SURGERY
Certain cosmetic enhancements can interfere with the monitoring and care required during anaesthesia.
These includes:
- Manicure / Nail treatments e.g. Nail Polish, Gelish, Acrylic nails.
- Contact lenses and cosmetic corneal lenses.
- False eyelashes.
- Make up.
Please ensure that the above be completely removed prior to arriving for surgery, in order to provide you with the safe and necessary care required for your surgery.
OTHER IMPORTANT INSTRUCTIONS
- DO NOT wear any jewellery.
- DO NOT bring excessive cash.
- It is NOT advisable to drive on the day of surgery.
PRE-SURGERY FASTING
for patients undergoing elective surgery/ procedure, requiring general anaesthesia
Surgery/ Procedure BEFORE 1pm
Surgery/ Procedure AFTER 1pm
Before 7am, you may take 2 slices of plain white bread OR 2 plain biscuits.
There should not be any spread (e.g. butter or jam) on the bread or biscuit.
You may take 1 cup of plain coffee or tea.
No dairy containing drinks are allowed.
DO NOT take any other type of food.
- From 7am, DO NOT consume any food.
You may only drink plain water up to 2 hours before your operation time.
MEDICATIONS
- Before 7am, take your medications as advised by PACE Clinic during your anaesthesia assessment.
