As a Senior Medical Social Worker at Tan Tock Seng Hospital, Ms Wong Hui Mei works closely with the hospital’s multidisciplinary teams and community partners to build a strong support ecosystem that facilitates recovery and improves the overall well-being of needy patients.
Because Hui Mei and her team work closely with TTSH Community Fund to process financial assistance applications and support fundraising initiatives, they understand firsthand how challenging fundraising can be. This motivates them to go the extra mile to help raise funds for patients in need.
Hui Mei appreciates that TTSH Community Fund enables many needy patients to access healthcare services and medical consumables that may not be covered by existing assistance schemes. She also values the Fund’s prompt processing of applications, which can make a significant difference to patients requiring urgent support.
She recalls a patient with nasopharyngeal cancer whose application to TTSH Community Fund was approved within two days. This allowed him to receive a hearing aid almost immediately. The patient was delighted as he no longer felt isolated in the community and could communicate more confidently with those around him.
Fundraising is never easy, and the team works hard to raise funds because the Kampung Spirit in TTSH is strong. We want to help the needy, and we believe that no one should be left behind.
