Giving Spark: Be the Difference for TTSH Needy Patients
For some patients at TTSH, illness is not only a battle for health but also a struggle to afford basic medical needs. With little savings and limited family support, the cost of essential items such as wheelchairs, interim dialysis, breathing equipment and transport can quickly become overwhelming.
Building Heath Beyond Today
Building Health Beyond Today is a fundraising campaign in support of the Health for Generations Fund (HGF) — a commitment by Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH) to strengthen the long-term sustainability, innovation and resilience of our healthcare system.

Recently, I was at a food centre having lunch when I noticed an elderly lady cleaning tables. She was frail, and her hands shook as she held the cloth, yet she wore a smile so bright it felt truly from the heart. After my lunch, I ushered her over. ![]() | What was the experience like for White Lodge Kindergarten and Pre-School? When TTSH Community Fund approached White Lodge Kindergarten and Pre-School to participate in Project Hongbao, they did not hesitate. After seeing how the lives of the needy, sick and elderly were especially affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, they saw a cause that was important to them and felt that this was their chance to help the community in their own way. White Lodge Kindergarten and Pre-School were especially keen on TTSH Community Fund’s focus on supporting healthcare research, seeing this as an important lesson at a preschool level.
As part of their Chinese New Year celebration, Project Hongbao provided students with the opportunity to experience giving back in a creative and fun way.
The project was very well received within the school community by parents and students alike. The children thoroughly enjoyed decorating and filling up a Hongbao as a token of good wishes.
We would like to say a big thank you to White Lodge Kindergarten and Pre-School for their initiative, compassion and enthusiasm in this campaign.
“The Hongbao project is for helping people. I like helping people” – Taya Belle Bar Menashe, White Lodge kindergarten student at Phoenix Park |
![]() | What was the experience like for Mulberry Learning @ Tanjong Pagar? It is not easy to inculcate the values of caring and sharing among children below 7 years old, but Mulberry Learning @ Tanjong Pagar readily took up the challenge through participating in Project Hongbao. Teachers at the centre shared videos and arranged picture talks in class to help children understand the plight of the less fortunate, as well as the challenges faced by the elderly and less privileged.
The children then decorated their red packets before penning down their well wishes to the beneficiaries and staff at TTSH Community Fund.
Mulberry Learning Centre adopts the Habits of Mind™ curriculum, where little Mulberrians are constantly exposed to activities and social stories involving empathy. Project Hongbao allowed the children to look at the world through the eyes of gratitude and better understand how their collective action can make a positive difference in the lives of those in need.
“Making Chinese Hongbao was fun! We decorated our red packets and my mummy helped me to put in some money to help more people.” – Daniel Lim, K1. |
