Your recovery starts before your operation.
The Perioperative Recovery Office (PRO) helps patients prepare for surgery and recover well afterwards through Enhanced Recovery After Surgery® (ERAS®). ERAS is an evidence-based approach that supports you throughout your surgical journey - from preparing for surgery to returning home.
Our team includes specialists in anaesthesia, surgery, nursing, dietetics, physiotherapy and hospital operations. We work together to provide safe, high-quality care that supports a smoother recovery.
Tan Tock Seng Hospital introduced ERAS® in 2016. We are proud to be certified by the ERAS® Society for colorectal, bariatric and total knee replacement surgery.
Aims of ERAS® for Patients
Implemented in Singapore at Tan Tock Seng Hospital in 2016, ERAS® is a surgical care program that improves recovery through an evidence-based, multidisciplinary approach.
What is ERAS®?
ERAS® is a programme that helps you prepare for surgery, reduce the stress of surgery on your body and return to your usual activities sooner.
ERAS® has been used for many operations, including:
- Colorectal Surgery
- Bariatric Surgery
- Total Knee Replacement (TKR)
- Breast Surgery
- Total Hip Replacement (THR)
ERAS® supports early eating and drinking when safe, good pain control, and early movement after surgery. These steps can help you regain strength and function sooner, while reducing the risk of complications after surgery.
Our Results
Since introducing ERAS®, patients undergoing selected operations have spent less time in hospital on average.
Your ERAS® Journey

How ERAS® Helps
Surgery temporarily places stress on the body and can reduce your strength and energy. ERAS® reduces this stress and helps you prepare before surgery.
By eating well, keeping active and managing health conditions before surgery, you can build up your strength. After surgery, early eating, drinking and movement can help you get back to your usual activities sooner.
ERAS® Patient Booklets
Your booklet explains how to prepare for surgery and what to expect during recovery.
