Slide mailer and clean container with ThinPrep CytoLyt solution
Collection Instructions:
For respiratory cases to be sent out, write "Attention to NUH (indicate doctor)" in red at the top of the request form.
1. Schedule rapid on-site evaluation fine-needle aspiration 1 day in advance.
2. Call the laboratory via fine-needle aspiration duty phone before the start of the procedure.
3. Cytotechnologist will attend procedure upon activation.
4. Obtain the fluid specimen by using the standard fine-needle aspiration technique from identified lesion.
5. Pass syringe to Cytotechnologist to prepare specimen for rapid on-site evaluation.
6. Cytotechnologist will pack specimen into a biohazard bag and leave it at a designated holding area for requesting location to despatch.

Unacceptable Conditions:
Specimen bottle or slide mailer without specimen label (patient name, NRIC and nature of specimen)
Specimen not in proper condition (e.g. leakage)
No specimen found in specimen bottle or slide mailer
Incorrect specimen in bottle indicated in Epic
Incorrect fixative used
Unsuitable specimen for cytopathology processing
Specimen slide(s) is or are irreparably broken
Specimen not in proper condition (e.g. leakage)
No specimen found in specimen bottle or slide mailer
Incorrect specimen in bottle indicated in Epic
Incorrect fixative used
