About WH Volunteer Services

Requirements
Interested in volunteering with us? Here are some things to know.
- You must be 18 years and above.
- Minimum commitment is once a month.
- Volunteer shifts are available daily, from 8.30am till 9.00pm.
- Prior vaccination is required for Emergency Department, ward, and therapy roles.
- Ability to speak dialect, Malay, Tamil or Bengali is an advantage.
- Training is provided for all volunteers.

Navigation and Digital Support Buddy
Enhancing patient and visitor experience
What you will do:
Be a warm and friendly face welcoming patients and visitors to WH
Help patients and visitors find their way around the hospital
Provide wheelchair assistance, where required.
Assist with digital services, such as the Patient Services StationEncourage the use of healthcare apps like HealthHub and NHG Health for appointments, payments, and medical certificates
Support staff during busy periods
Emergency Department Guardian
Providing comfort in critical moments
What you will do:
Observation Bay and Extended Diagnostic Treatment Unit
Assist patients with meal ordering and eating using the Patient Bedside Terminal
Offer companionship and emotion support, especially for patients who are alone
Assist with practical needs such as wheelchair use or toileting
Brief new patients on ward layout and amenitities
Respond to patient call bells
Report safety hazards and clinical concerns to nursing staff
Priority 3 Area
Assist patients and caregivers with registration
Offer a clam and reassuring presence to patients.
Keep the waiting area orderly and welcoming
Provide comfort items to patients if neededd
Bedside Befriender
Companionship for patients with cognitive challenges
What you will do:
Accompany patients to help ensure their safety and well-being
Engage patients in conversation about their lives and interests
Engage patients in simple activities to support their mental well-being
Maintain a calm and reassuring presence
Palliative Care Companion
Companionship for patients with a terminal or life-limiting illness
What you will do:
Provide companionship and a listening ear to patients and their families
Assist patients with legacy work e.g. Advance Care Planning
Capture meaningful moments through photography
Create a calm and reassuring environment through music, scents, and soft lighting
Provide hair cutting and nail colouring service on request
Support the weekly Makan Nostalgia programme
Maintain the fish tank that contributes to a calming environment
Patient Pal
Being a friendly face and helping hand in our wards
What you will do:
Engage patients in conversations and simple activities
Provide companionship to patients with limited social support
Offer respite for caregivers during mealtimes or when they need to rest
Support our nursing team as an extra pair of eyes.
Teach patients to use their Patient Bedside Terminals (PBT) for meal
ordering, medical chart viewing, and entertainment
Programme Facilitator
Bringing joy and creative fun to our wards through engaging activities
What you will do:

Facilitate or support small group game

What you will do:
Create a welcoming atmosphere for patients during their weekly group therapy sessions
Motivate patients to participate actively in their rehabilitation journey
Assist with the set-up and cleaning of equipment before and after each session
Accompany patients to and from their therapy sessions
Administration Support
Help our volunteer programme run smoothly
What you will do:
Assist with roster management and volunteer deployment on weekdays or weekends
Support the day-to-day operations of the Volunteer Hub
Respond to volunteer enquiries via our WhatsApp group chat
Help build a strong and engaged volunteer community
Knitted Knockers @ NHG Health Volunteer
Supporting women with breast cancer
What you will do:
Create soft, lightweight knitted prostheses using approved patterns and materials
Ensure each piece meets quality and comfort standards
Be part of a supportive community of crafters who share knowledge and experiences
Advance Care Planning (ACP) Advocates
Empowering patients and caregivers through personalised support
What you will do:
Engage WH patients in meaningful conversations about ACP
Participate in public roadshows by representing ACP efforts at community events, raising public awareness, distribute informational materials, and answering basic questions about ACP
Care Kit Crew
Supporting the WH@Home programme
What you will do:
Pack care kits according to standard checklists
Restock and organise inventory to ensure sufficient quantities for each kit
Receive hands-on training on proper packing workflows and stock‑checking
procedures
