Internal Medicine is a broad-based medical specialty that positions internists to deliver patient-centred, holistic care. This programme empowers the resident to deal with complex undifferentiated medical issues s across specialties.
The NHG Internal Medicine Residency Programme is a 3-year training programme that prepares the resident for further specialisation. It provides the resident with the opportunity to rotate through our main sites at Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH), Khoo Teck Puat Hospital (KTPH), Woodlands Hospital (WH), National Neuroscience Institute (NNI), National Skin Centre (NSC), and Woodlands Hospital (WH). As such, one will accumulate clinical experiences ranging from inpatient wards, ambulatory clinics, intensive care units, emergency department, to subacute care in community hospitals and hospices.
In our commitment to balancing comprehensive clinical experience with rigorous educational excellence, residents are provided with dedicated protected learning time during office hours. This structured approach encompasses modular teaching, case-based discussions, and non-clinical skills essential for becoming an excellent clinician, all delivered within a supportive educational environment that cultivates evidence-based medicine practices and enhances critical decision-making skills essential for optimal patient care.
Despite being a large programme, the NHG IM Programme prioritises individualised residency journey and resident wellbeing through a comprehensive support network. Each resident will have regular one-on-one meetings with the Programme Director and faculty members, ensuring personalised guidance throughout their training journey while being supported by dedicated senior doctor mentors and the resident affairs workgroup. We aim for every trainee to experience a bespoke training journey with comprehensive support measures designed to foster both personal and professional growth.
