Symptoms usually start 3 to 21 days after exposure.

Initial early common symptoms include:

• Fever

• Headache

• Muscle aches and fatigue

• Swollen lymph nodes

This is followed by a skin rash:

• The rash can go through several stages, including scabs, before healing.

• It can initially look like pimples or blisters and may be painful or itchy

It may be located on hands, feet, chest, face, or mouth or near the genitals

JYNNEOS is a 2-dose vaccine developed to protect against monkeypox and smallpox.

Keypoints of the vaccine:

• Eligible individuals for the vaccines as pre-exposure prophylaxis are at-risk GBMSM based on current local transmission patterns

• 2-doses are needed, given 4 weeks apart (Only 1 dose recommended for individuals who had previously received smallpox vaccination)

• Estimated vaccine effectiveness is approximately 80 percent against Mpox

  • However, data remain limited regarding the level and duration of protection

  • Other measures to reduce risk of transmission should be continued regardless of vaccination.

Side Effects of the vaccine:

• The most common side effects after JYNNEOS vaccination are pain, redness, and itching at the spot where the vaccine is given. You might also experience fever, headache, tiredness, nausea, chills, and muscle aches. Your doctor will explain in detail risks before the vaccination.
