
Admission
Preparing for Admission
If you are admitted to NCID, we hope that you will feel settled as quickly as possible. Please bring the following documents when you register for admission:
- Your NRIC or Birth Certificate (if you are below 15 years of age) or Passport (if you are a foreigner)
- Medical benefit identification documents (if applicable), such as the following:
- Letter of Guarantee from your employer
- Civil Service Card
- Insurance documents
- CPF membership card, valid P, Q, R, Employment Pass or letter from employer for Work Permit or Employment Pass holders
For elective (or planned) admissions, the following documents are needed:
- The ‘Authorisation Form for Admission’ from your doctor
- Financial Counselling Form with the estimated bill
- Required deposit (if any)
Arrival
After your admission, a principal nurse will be assigned to your care. You will be oriented to your ward and the facilities available. Our doctor will visit you and record your medical history. He will then carry out any necessary examinations and tests.
Patient Identification
For your safety, a patient identification wrist band, which contains your name, NRIC, date of birth and address, will be provided. Please wear the bracelet at all times during your stay.
Consent
Upon your admission to NCID, you are deemed to have agreed to treatment which may be required for your medical condition. Certain procedures, such as surgery, the administration of anaesthesia and certain diagnostic processes, would require your consent in writing. Your doctor will explain these procedures to help you understand them better.
Doctors usually conduct their rounds in the morning to review patients. They are also on duty round-the-clock to attend to your urgent medical needs. You may seek clarification from the doctor on any treatment, examination, procedure or drugs given to you.
Nurses Call Service
All beds are fitted with a call-buzzer so that you may contact the nursing staff for assistance when necessary.
Personal Items
For your convenience and comfort, you may wish to bring personal items such as:
Slippers
Pyjamas
Toiletries (e.g. toothbrush, toothpaste, soap, shampoo, comb, etc)
Books/magazines to read
Valuables
Please do not keep valuables or excessive cash with you during your hospital stay. If you have these items when you are admitted, please ask your relatives to take them home, or hand them over to your nurse-in-charge for safekeeping. NCID will not be responsible for any loss of valuables or cash kept in the ward/room.
Food Service
At NCID, we provide balanced meals for our patients. If you are on a therapeutic diet, please observe the dietary requirements as prescribed.
Dietitians are available to discuss your special dietary requirements with you and your family.
Inpatient Visitation Policy
At the National Centre for Infectious Diseases, we recognise that visitors are an important part of the healing process for our patients.
Your family and friends are welcome to visit you during your stay. To ensure that you and other patients receive adequate rest, visiting hours are from 12pm-8pm daily, including public holidays. A maximum of two visitors are allowed per patient at any one time during visiting hours. Children (below 12 years of age) are not allowed to visit the wards.
Smoking
Smoking is strictly prohibited within NCID grounds by law. Offenders will be fined $1,000. Kindly do not bring cigarette packets to NCID.
Electrical Appliances
Personal television sets should not be brought into the ward unless prior permission is obtained. A battery-operated radio is permitted provided the volume is kept at a minimum level or earphones are used. A battery-operated laptop computer is allowed in single-bedded rooms whereas in multi-bedded rooms, it is allowed only if it does not disturb the neighbouring patients. A nominal fee will be charged and prior approval has to be sought.
Leaving the Ward
Please inform the ward staff before leaving the ward at all times. For your safety, please do not leave NCID premises without the permission of your doctor-in-charge.
Visitor Policy
We have made the following updates to our Visiting Policy with effect from 8 August 2025.

Visitors are to follow the daily visiting hours between 12pm to 8pm. Click here for more details.
Visitors are encouraged to do their Antigen Rapid Test (ART) before visiting the hospital.
To protect the health and safety of our patients, visitors should not visit if feeling unwell.
Children (below 12 years of age) are not allowed to visit the wards.
When in our Wards, please observe the following:
DO
Wear your mask properly and at all times
Wash / sanitise hands regularly
Maintain a safe distance of at least 1 metre
DO NOT
Sit on patient's bed or use patient toilets
Interact with other patients and visitors
Eat and drink
Discharge
When you’re well enough to return home, your doctor will inform you and share some follow-up information, which may include follow-up outpatient appointments (where applicable), medicines or prescriptions, and post-discharge care information.
For your safety, please arrange for a next-of-kin or friend to pick you up from NCID.
The discharge process may take some time to allow the care team to complete processes such as the following:
Contacting your next-of-kin about your discharge
Preparation of your discharge summary
Preparation of your medication/ prescriptions
Scheduling of follow-up appointments
Counselling on post-discharge care
What is required in order to fulfil the request for medical information?
If you wish to request for a medical report, we require you to consent to the release of medical information. If you are below 21 years of age, the consent of your parent(s) or legal guardian is required. For deceased patients, consent from the appointed representative of the estate is required, along with a copy of the death certificate and other supporting documents (e.g. marriage certificate, letters of administration) as proof of the representative’s relationship to the patient.
Other items that are required include a copy of the patient’s NRIC or other identification document and payment for the information required.

When can the requested medical information be ready?
As a general guide, the time frame for completion of medical reports is between 4 to 6 weeks.
The completion of the report may take longer if:
The patient has upcoming clinic appointments
The patient has been hospitalised
Multiple reports are required from several clinical departments
The doctor is away
Specialist Medical Reports and Workmen Compensation cases require more processing time as a review may be required after the patient has been discharged.
Duplicate copies of medical records can be collected on the spot if the request is made in person at Health Information Services.
How will I receive the medical report/ insurance form/ copies of medical records?
Patients can request for the medical report to be:
Mailed to them if the patient’s mailing address was provided at the point of application
Collected in person at the Health Information Services office, with the patient’s contact number provided at the point of application. The patient will be contacted once the report is ready for collection and the NRIC of the patient and payment receipt should be produced upon collection. If a third party is collecting on the patient’s behalf, an authorisation letter will be required.
