Macular diseases result in poor vision and significantly reduces one’s quality of life. If not treated early, such diseases can result in blindness. Even with its prevalence, many in the community are unaware of the symptoms and their treatment options. Raising awareness of macular diseases is therefore crucial in preventing irreversible blindness, as recognition of early symptoms, seeking prompt medical care and taking simple preventive measures such as participation in regular eye screenings and lifestyle modification may be able to slow down the progression of disease and protect against blindness.
As part of our continuous efforts to raise Awareness of Macular Diseases (AMD) and promote the importance of early detection, AMD Week is held annually in Singapore. This year, AMD Week will be held from
9 October – 16 October 2021 at Yishun Health, with an exciting line up of activities including the virtual launch of AMD Week, public education talks,
Yishun Health Community Ophthalmology Medal (NEW!), eye screenings for age-related eye diseases, and other fun activities.
