The Department of Psychology at IMH is committed to nurturing individuals who are interested in a career in clinical psychology, by providing them an opportunity for observational and experiential learning. This is within the adult mental health setting where we adopt a scientist-practitioner approach, with a strong focus on conducting research and developing new psychological services.
What to Expect:
Minimum of 1 to 2 days per week for 6 consecutive months
Regular supervision by an assigned clinical psychologist
Relevant training opportunities
Certificate of attendance after completion of attachment
Testimonial upon request after completion of attachment
There will be no remuneration as this is a self-initiated attachment
Internships
Internship Programmes in Child Mental Health
The Department of Developmental Psychiatry (DDP) at the Institute of Mental Health (IMH) is committed to the education and professional development of young clinicians and allied health professionals. The internship programmes in child mental health adopt a clinician-scientist approach with positions offering clinical exposure and training opportunities in a clinical setting, with a strong focus on conducting research in mental health.
Application for the August 2026 – January 2027 intake will be open from 29 May to 18 June 2026. Please send in your application latest by 5pm on 18 June 2026 (Thursday). Late applications will not be processed. More details can be found in the downloadable application form below.
Psychology Undergraduate Internship
This programme provides hands-on experience in psychology applied in clinical settings for students with an interest in pursuing a career in psychology. Interns gain clinical exposure via training sessions and clinical observation opportunities, and gain research skills by assisting in research-based activities.
Eligibility:
- Third year Psychology majors from a recognized university
- Above the age of 21 at point of enrolment
Minimum Commitment:
- Part-time: 2 days per week for 6 months.
- Full-time: 5 days per week for 3 months.

Research Attachment
This programme is open to graduate-level applicants who are interested in learning and conducting clinical research. Interns are expected to complete a research project during the internship. Applications are considered year-round.
Eligibility:
- Enrolled in Masters, PhD, or MD programme
- Secured a supervisor who is agreeable to undertake supervision
- Above the age of 21 at point of enrolment
Graduate Clinical Attachment
This attachment provides the candidate hands-on learning in a clinical setting under the supervision of a qualified clinical supervisor of the relevant discipline. Interns are expected to discuss with their supervisor on the learning goals, and area of training before commencing the attachment. Applicants should meet training eligibility criteria as expected of their discipline and should have secured a supervisor prior to application. Applications are considered year-round.
