Exceptional surgeons are shaped through rigorous training, purposeful mentorship, and a culture that inspires growth. General Surgery is a dynamic and demanding specialty that requires broad expertise in diagnosis, operative management, and perioperative care across a wide spectrum of surgical conditions.
The NHG General Surgery Residency Programme is a comprehensive 6-year training programme designed to develop residents into highly competent, broad-based surgeons within a structured and supportive clinical-academic environment. Through individualised training, progressive responsibility, and rich exposure to complex patient care, residents build the technical excellence, clinical judgment, and professionalism required of the modern surgeon.
A defining strength of NHG is the culture we foster—one of camaraderie, collaboration, and shared growth. We believe residents thrive in an environment where peers learn alongside one another, faculty are deeply committed to teaching, and mentorship is a visible and valued part of daily training. Supported by dedicated clinical educators, surgical faculty, and non-surgical faculty, our residents are guided every step of the way as they grow in confidence, capability, and independence.
Grounded in the core competencies of patient care, medical knowledge, practice-based learning, communication, professionalism, and systems-based practice, our programme prepares residents to become independent surgeons who deliver high-quality, patient-centred care and contribute meaningfully to the future of surgery.
At NHG, we do more than train surgeons—we cultivate future surgical leaders.
