Biodata
Prof Tham Kum Ying is a senior consultant with the Emergency Department. After her traineeship in Singapore, she completed her HMDP training in Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston, USA and has a special interest in trauma management and point-of-care sonography in the ED. She is well regarded for her expertise in emergency medicine, and medical education.
Prof Tham is a founding member of the Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine (LKCMedicine) and currently, the Assistant Dean of Postgraduate Studies. With over three decades of medical experience, she holds fellowships from the Royal College of Physicians of London, Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and the Academy of Medicine, Singapore, alongside a Doctorate in Education. Prof Tham has played an active leadership role in health profession education in LKCMedicine, NHG Health, Tan Tock Seng Hospital and the PTAS division of Ministry of Health. Her contributions extend beyond Singapore through capacity-building projects in Indonesia, China, Cambodia and Mongolia.
Prof Tham has been instrumental in shaping healthcare education across Singapore. She has been actively involved in the education of medical students, doctors, residents, nurses, allied health professionals, pharmacists and paramedics. Her work has been recognised through numerous accolades, including the MOH National Medical Excellence Award for Clinician Educator, and NTU’s Nanyang Education Award University Gold.
