Biodata
Dr Ng Wei Xiang is a Senior Consultant in the Department of Emergency Medicine at Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH) and the Programme Director of the National Healthcare Group (NHG) Emergency Medicine Residency Programme. His clinical and academic interests include emergency airway management, resuscitation, simulation-based education, and the use of virtual reality (VR) to enhance training. Dr Ng graduated from the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore in 2010 and obtained his Master of Medicine (Emergency Medicine) in 2015. He is a Fellow of the Academy of Medicine, Singapore, and a Fellow ad eundem of the Royal College of Emergency Medicine (UK). He is currently pursuing a Master of Clinical Simulation, expected to complete in 2025.
Clinically, Dr Ng has a strong interest in high-acuity emergency care, particularly airway and critical care management. He led the development of TTSH ED’s emergency airway management policy and was instrumental in implementing airway-related technologies such as flexible bronchoscopes, in-line suction systems, PEEP valves, and advanced endotracheal tube designs. His contributions have strengthened airway safety, standardisation, and team preparedness within the department.
Dr Ng is deeply committed to medical education and faculty development. As Programme Director, he oversees curriculum design, assessment frameworks, resident progression, and faculty development activities. He helped develop an equitable, multi-dimensional residency selection matrix and is actively involved in undergraduate, postgraduate, and nursing education through curriculum planning, bedside teaching, simulation facilitation, OSCE leadership, and the national collaborative prescribing programme. His work in emergency nursing education and APN supervision reflects his commitment to interprofessional training.
A strong advocate for innovation, Dr Ng has designed high-acuity, low-occurrence VR simulation scenarios for emergency and pre-hospital training and has published on low-cost simulation models. He frequently speaks at national and regional meetings and serves on the International Federation for Emergency Medicine (IFEM) Core Curriculum and Education Committee. He has received multiple awards for teaching and service, including NHG Teaching Awards for Senior Doctors and the NUS Medicine Dean’s Award for Teaching Excellence.
