Adj A/Prof Michael Chia is a Senior Consultant of the Department of Emergency Medicine at Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH). He graduated from the National University of Singapore with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) and holds postgraduate qualifications including Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (FRCS Edin), Royal College of Emergency Medicine (UK) and Fellowship of the Academy of Medicine Singapore (FAMS). He completed his fellowships in prehospital emergency medicine and disaster medicine, and simulation in healthcare in USA.
Adj A/Prof Chia is a strong advocate for simulation-based medical education and has developed training programs for healthcare professionals across various disciplines. He regularly conducts simulation trainings and workshops for paramedics, nurses, and doctors, both within TTSH and across the regional healthcare cluster. His recent work involves the use of immersive and virtual reality technology to enhance clinical training and patient safety.
In addition to his clinical and educational roles, Adj A/Prof Chia is actively involved in research and quality improvement. He has contributed to national studies on out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) and has led initiatives to improve bystander CPR rates and emergency response systems. He also spearheaded a successful SCDF and inter-hospital collaboration to improve patients’ prearrival information flow from the ambulance to the receiving EDs.
