Introduction Message:
Otorhinolaryngology (ORL) is an exciting specialty that combines both medical and surgical approaches in managing disorders of the ear, nose, throat (ENT), and head and neck region. This programme trains residents to deliver the highest quality care across the full spectrum of ENT diseases, encompassing comprehensive management of head and neck conditions.
The NHG ORL Residency Programme is a comprehensive 5-year programme that provides residents with thorough and robust training, ensuring they develop the necessary knowledge, skills, and professional attitude to become well-rounded ORL specialists. The specialty encompasses the entire spectrum of surgical approaches, equipping residents to care for patients requiring even the most complex surgical procedures. However, not all disorders necessitate surgical intervention. Using specialised diagnostic ORL instruments, most patients can be effectively managed in the outpatient clinic setting.
Within our diverse and dynamic subspecialty, we collaborate closely with colleagues from various subspecialties and allied health professions to ensure holistic and comprehensive patient management. We actively work across multiple disciplines including radiology, medical oncology, radiation oncology, neurosurgery, respiratory medicine, and dentistry, thereby enriching the scope and depth of ORL specialty practice.
Our programme places strong emphasis on education. Each resident receives close mentorship from our specialists through structured teaching sessions and academic activities, complemented by intensive on-the-job training to develop both clinical acumen and surgical expertise. In the operating theatres, residents gain extensive opportunities to assist in and perform various operations under the close supervision and expert guidance of our experienced surgeons.
