NHG Health held its inaugural E3 (Educate, Elevate, Evolve) conference on 15 to 16 April 2026, bringing together more than 500 healthcare educators and professionals for two days of experiential learning at the Ng Teng Fong Centre for Healthcare Innovation. The event's experiential format focused on active participation rather than traditional lectures, offering participants practical opportunities to explore innovative educational methodologies and collaborate across disciplines.
The conference featured a total of 27 unique workshops addressing current trends in health professions education and research. Sessions spanned a wide range of topics, including education fundamentals for educators, humanistic medicine, education research, AI-enabled education, automation for administrators, and simulation-based learning, among other topics.
New Partnership with NTU
During the opening ceremony on 15 April, NHG Health's Institute for Humanistic Medicine (HuMe) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Nanyang Technological University's Centre for Health, Culture and Society (CHCS), signalling a significant step in advancing healthcare education through interdisciplinary collaboration. This collaboration aims to strengthen health professions education and research in Singapore and the region through integrating clinical humanistic practice with interdisciplinary scholarship in medical humanities and social sciences.
The partnership will promote high-impact, interdisciplinary research at the intersection of humanistic medicine, health humanities, and social sciences. NHG Health and NTU will also co-develop new educational programmes that integrate clinical perspectives with insights from humanities and social sciences, providing more holistic training for healthcare professionals.
A significant focus of the collaboration will be enhancing capacity building in essential skills, including communication, medical ethics, cultural humility, and relational care.
Interactive Learning Experience
E3’s programme combined plenary sessions with interactive workshops, hands-on booths, and friendly competitions. A key highlight was the E3 Exhibition, featuring 12 booths covering three main themes: faculty development, technology and AI, and simulation. The exhibition featured practical tools for immediate application in coaching and clinical skills training, alongside technological innovations including AI-powered communication tools and next-generation learning systems that are transforming healthcare education. A Health Professions Education Research Poster Village also provided researchers with a platform to share their latest findings.
Two competitions showcasing cutting-edge ideas in healthcare education brought additional energy to the conference:
- The Health Professions Education (HPE) Research Rumble saw eight passionate education researchers compete for the title of HPE Research Champion, presenting their latest insights and innovations in health professions education. Prof Yip Chee Chew, Head and Senior Consultant, Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences, Khoo Teck Puat Hospital emerged as the HPE Research Champion with his research on Teaching Medical Undergraduates Skills for Eye Examination (SEE).
- The Serpents' Pit challenged teams to present tech-powered innovations specifically built for health professions education, with solutions powered by AI, AR/VR, or simulation technology. Participants were judged on education impact, problem significance, creativity, utility and scalability, and technical sophistication. Dr. C. Thiaghu and Dr Wong Yu-Lin from Tan Tock Seng Hospital took top honours with their AI-powered VR simulation solution that trains doctors to better detect and manage deteriorating stroke patients in intensive care units.
The successful launch of the inaugural edition of E3 and the new NHG Health-NTU partnership demonstrates our ongoing commitment to advancing health professions education and research through innovation and collaboration, with a continued focus on maintaining compassionate, patient-centred care as the foundation of medical practice.
