Dr Eugene Tan is a Senior Consultant Dermatologist at the National Skin Centre (NSC), Singapore. He subspecializes in photodermatology and psoriasis. He completed his dermatology training at NSC in 2013, followed by advanced fellowship training at St John's Institute of Dermatology in London under the Health Manpower Development Plan. He is currently the Chief of the Photodermatology Unit at NSC, where he leads the service in phototherapy and managing patients with photosensitive skin disorders.
His clinical work in photodermatology encompasses the evaluation and treatment of patients with skin conditions triggered by exposure to ultraviolet and/or visible light, the use of phototherapy to treat a broad range of inflammatory and autoimmune skin disorders, and the use of photodynamic therapy to treat skin cancers and pre-cancerous skin lesions.
His other clinical focus is the management of psoriasis and other chronic inflammatory skin conditions, and he is well versed in the use of systemic immunomodulators and biologics in patients with greater disease severity. He adopts a friendly, patient-centred approach, and develops tailored evidence-based treatment plans that consider each patient's unique needs and circumstances.
Dr Eugene is actively engaged in teaching and clinical discussions within the department and continues to develop his expertise through ongoing professional learning. He has been an invited speaker at local and regional meetings, where he shares his insights on photodermatology, psoriasis and related conditions. He is Chief Editor of the book "Asian Skin - Colour Atlas of Dermatology and Venereology, 3rd Edition", and Co-Editor of the book "Phototherapy and Photodiagnostic Methods for the Practitioner". He contributes to dermatology research, having published numerous scientific articles in dermatology and medical journals, and serving as a reviewer for research papers and grant applications.
Dr Eugene Tan has received multiple awards recognising his contributions to clinical care, research, teaching, and service. These include the Best Oral Presentation Award (NSC Dermatology & Venereology Update, 2012), Ego-NSC Dermatology Registrar Fellowship Award (2012), and the NHG Teaching Award for Junior Clinicians (2013). He was also awarded the Health Manpower Development Plan (HMDP) Award (2014) and the NHG Clinician Leadership in Research Award (2015), reflecting his contributions to research. His academic work has been further recognised with the Best Poster Award (NSC Dermatology & Venereology Update, 2018) and the IJDVL International Award for Best Letter to the Editor (2018). In recognition of his service and institutional contributions, he has received the NHG Excellence in Action Award (2022), NSC Service Quality Champion (Silver Award) (2022, 2024, 2025), and the COVID-19 Resilience Medal (2023). Most recently, he was part of the team awarded the Best Action Learning Project Group Award, NHG CHAMP (2025).
