Dr Lee Keng Thiam is a Singapore trained Orthopaedic Surgeon registered with the Singapore Medical Council since May 2006. He currently serves as a Senior Consultant in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH). He has more than 20 years’ experience in arthroscopic (“keyhole”) treatment of shoulder and knee injuries such as shoulder dislocation, SLAP tears, shoulder impingement, rotator cuff tears, frozen shoulder, knee ligament tears, meniscus tears and cartilage injuries. He also manages all kinds of shoulder, elbow and knee conditions, including performing knee preservation surgeries and shoulder, elbow and knee replacement surgeries.

Dr Lee graduated from The National University of Singapore (NUS) in 1997. He received his Master of Medicine (Orthopaedic Surgery) in 2001 and completed Advanced Specialist Training in Orthopaedic Surgery in 2006. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. As a recipient of the Ministry of Health Human Manpower Development Plan (HMDP) scholarship, Dr Lee underwent fellowship training in advanced Sports Surgery and Upper Limb Surgery in Melbourne, Australia in 2006/07. 

Dr Lee was the former Head of the Sports Medicine & Surgery Service, TTSH from December 2009 to October 2015, and again from January 2017 to April 2026. He was also former Head of Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, TTSH from July 2015 to January 2025 as well as Clinical Board Member, TTSH from 2016 to 2021. 

Besides clinical work, Dr Lee is also actively involved in the education and training of local medical students and Orthopaedic residents. He was appointed Adjunct Associate Professor by Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, NUS in 2015 and by Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine, NTU since 2016. He was a Core Clinical Faculty Member of the NHG Orthopaedic Surgery Residency Program from 2011 to 2024 and remains a Clinical Faculty Member today. He is a regular examiner for the Master of Medicine (Orthopaedic Surgery) Examination and Joint Specialty Fellowship Examination. He has also trained many overseas surgeons in shoulder and knee surgeries in the past 2 decades through TTSH fellowship programmes and conducting hands-on surgical workshops. He has published more than 30 research articles in local and international peer-reviewed medical journals.

Dr Lee was awarded TTSH Top 10 Teacher for Academic Year (AY) 2010-11, 2015-16 and 2018-19, and was presented with TTSH Best Teacher Award, Division of Surgery for AY 2016-17. He also received NUS Orthopaedic Teaching Excellence Award for AY 2012-13, 2013-14 & 2014-15, and NUS Dean’s Award for Teaching Excellence for AY 2014-15 and 2015-16. Over his more than 2 decades of clinical practice, he has also received several awards for excellence in patient service and clinical quality improvement projects. He was conferred The Long Service Medal (Pingat Bakti Setia) at the MOH National Day Awards 2023 for his 25 years of Public Service, as well as received TTSH Staff Excellence Award (Gold) in 2024.
