
The Department of Haematology provides comprehensive, integrated and patient-centred services for the diagnosis and management of all benign and malignant haematological conditions for inpatients and outpatients.
These include benign disorders like anemias, autoimmune haematological disorders, systemic disorders with haematological involvement, primary and secondary marrow failures, bleeding disorders and venous thrombosis as well as blood cancers like lymphoma, myeloma, myeloproliferative neoplasms, myelodysplastic syndromes and acute leukemias. In addition, we also provide laboratory haematological services and blood transfusion services.
Our Services
The Haematology team provides 24-hour comprehensive specialized clinical haematology service assisted by nurses trained to administer chemotherapy and biologics and pharmacists trained to handle chemotherapy and biologics.
This includes:
- Initial stabilization and definitive management of presenting complications of haematological malignancies (e.g. hyperviscosity, hyperleucocytosis).
- Management of haematological malignancies and non-malignant haematological conditions using intensive and non-intensive chemotherapy, novel targeted agents, immunotherapy and biologics.
- Therapeutic plasma exchange for diseases like TTP (thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura)
- Definitive management of complex bleeding disorders
- Genetic evaluation, diagnosis, counselling and management of haematological disorders.
- Supportive management of myeloproliferative neoplasms and myelodysplastic syndromes
- Management of venous thromboembolism
- Palliative care
In addition, the team also provides laboratory services which include reporting of blood films and bone marrow aspirates, specialized coagulation tests, immunophenotyping and next generation sequencing for haematological malignancies.
