In the last two years, more than 50,000 people in Singapore were prescribed antidepressants. The number of young people aged 18 – 24 years taking the medication appears to have increased.

This Tamil current affairs programme takes a closer look at antidepressants and when it is used. Dr Nigila Ravichandran, Senior Consultant, Department of Emergency and Crisis Care, IMH, was among the experts interviewed. She explained how an individual or family members can look out for signs and symptoms of mental health issues, when antidepressants are prescribed, as well as other treatment options, such as psychotherapy, available for individuals with depression and anxiety.
