Biodata
Dr Amir is a Consultant at the Department of Ophthalmology, Woodlands Health, and a Visiting Consultant with Tan Tock Seng Hospital and Khoo Teck Puat Hospital.
Dr Amir graduated from the National University of Singapore Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine in 2011. During his training, he was awarded the Dr Abdul Aziz Scholarship, the LBKM scholarship, the TKC Travel Bursary Award, and was invited to the Dean's dinner for his academic achievements.
Dr Amir subsequently trained under the ACGME-I (American Council of Graduate Medical Education - International) accredited National Healthcare Group Ophthalmology Residency Program and obtained his Master of Medicine (Ophthalmology) in 2017. He qualified as a fellow of The Royal College of Ophthalmologists (United Kingdom) in 2018 and was admitted as a Fellow of the Academy of Medicine, Singapore in 2019. During the Ophthalmology Exit examinations in 2019, he was awarded the Joint Commission for Specialist Training (JCST) Gold Medal award for his performance.
Dr Amir then completed a 2-year Cornea and Refractive surgery fellowship with the National Healthcare Group Eye Institute. Subsequently, he was awarded the Human Manpower Development Programme Scholarship by the Ministry of Health and completed a second fellowship in Cornea and external disease at the University of British Columbia, Canada, for 1 year under the mentorship of esteemed Professor Simon Holland.
Dr Amir has been involved in various leadership and administrative roles. He has served as both Chief (junior) Resident (2016) and Chief (senior) Resident (2018) and was a member of the National Healthcare Group Residents' Council and Residency Program Review Committees. He was also selected to represent NHG Ophthalmology at the Singapore Chief Residency Programme (SCRP) in 2016.
Dr Amir is the Ophthalmology education lead and is active in undergraduate and post graduate medical education. He was awarded with the NHG Teaching Excellence Award for Senior Doctors in 2022 and is currently a Clinical Teacher with the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore, and an adjunct lecturer and examiner with the Lee Kong Chian (LKC) School of Medicine, Nanyang Technological University. He is also currently a member of the Clinical Competency Committee, Programme Evaluation Committee, and Physician Faculty for the NHG Ophthalmology Residency Programme.
Dr Amir has presented in numerous local and overseas research conferences, published multiple papers in peer- reviewed journals, as well as authored an Ophthalmology textbook chapter.
His areas of interest include General Ophthalmology and Corneal and Refractive Surgery.
