Dr Lim Tiek Whai obtained his MBBS and Master of Medicine in Anaesthesiology from NUS. He worked in Dept of Intensive Care of Royal Perth Hospital during his HMDP attachment.
Upon returning to CGH, he was responsible for the modernisation of its SICU and introduced new modalities of treatment.
He was appointed the first director of SICU and served as Chief, dept of Anaesthesiology and SICU before leaving to WH to lead the planning and development of its dept of Intensive Care Medicine(ICM) in 2017.
With the pioneers, he witnessed the birth of the Society of Intensive Care Medicine (SICM), Singapore, and served as its hon gen secretary for 3 terms. Subsequently, he was appointed member of the first Sub-Specialist training Committee in Intensive care medicine and was one of the examiners.
To support the Academy of Medicine, he developed the anaesthesiology Staff registrar scheme and became the program director, and then the inaugural Chair of the chapter of Intensive Care Medicine.
In addition, he championed patient safety and quality in healthcare and hold a concurrent appointment as the Clinical director of the Value and safety Office. He was awarded NHG Distinguished Senior Clinician Award (DSCA) 2022, National Day Award 2017, Long Service Award, Best Educator Award 2016, CGH and Outstanding Faculty Award, Singhealth residency (RISE) 2016.
