Dr Ernest Kwek graduated from the National University of Singapore in 1997, and completed his advanced specialist training in Orthopaedic Surgery in 2008. Dr Kwek's areas of interest include orthopaedic trauma, with a special interest in pelvic-acetabular and peri-articular fractures. He was awarded an MOH Scholarship in orthopaedic trauma under Professor Richard Buckley in Calgary, Canada. In addition, Dr Kwek was also awarded a fellowship in limb reconstruction and deformity correction, which he completed under Professor Maurizio Catagni in Lecco, Italy. He has a particular interest in post-traumatic limb reconstruction, as well as the management of bone defects and non-unions. Dr Kwek has in turn trained several fellows from the region , and is a Visiting Consultant for Khoo Teck Puat Hospital and Seng Kang General Hospital.
Dr Kwek is a recipient of numerous research and teaching awards. He has served as Programme Director of the NHG Orthopaedic Surgery Residency Programme, and is dedicated to training the next generation of orthopaedic surgeons. He has published top-cited papers, won research awards in international congresses, and published several book chapters. Dr Kwek was instrumental in establishing a vibrant research culture within the Orthopaedic Surgery Department of Tan Tock Seng Hospital. He has mentored medical students and residents to several grants, research awards and publications. Dr Kwek is also appointed Adjunct Associate Professor with the National University of Singapore Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine. Whilst his focus has now shifted to administration in his new role as Chief of Orthopaedic Surgery at the Woodlands Health, he remains dedicated to establishing research and academia as a foundation for clinical practice. His appointment as Clinical Director of Research will also see him striving to establish a hospital firmly grounded in scholarly practices and committed to research growth when the campus opens in 2024.
