Biodata

Dr Chua Wei Chong graduated from the National Univeristy of Singapore in 1996 as the first recipient of the SAF Local Medicine Scholarship. He obtained his MMED (Surgery) in 2003, FRCSED (General Surgery) and FAMS in 2007. He completed a Fellowship in Trauma Surgery at Liverpool Hospital, Sydney in 2006. He served as Chief Army Medical Officer and Commander SAF Medical Training Institute in 2009-2012, and was deployed on a number of SAF missions in Indonesia, Timor Leste and Afghanistan. He was awarded the Public Administration Medal (Bronze) (Military) in 2011.

Dr Chua established the Tan Tock Seng - Calmette Hospital Trauma and ICU programmes in 2014-2020 in partnership with Temasek Foundation, to strengthen the delivery of trauma care in Cambodia. He also was elected as President of the College of Surgeons, Singapore in 2017-2019 to represent the interests of surgeons in both public and private sectors. He also served as Clinical Director of the National Trauma Unit in MOH from 2016-2023.

Dr Chua was appointed as Chief, Department of Surgery, Woodlands Health in April 2020. He is also the Chair of the Woodlands Health Trauma Committee, tasked to establish the Trauma Service. He subspecialises in Trauma Surgery, and manages the critically injured patients. He is a passionate teacher to medical students, residents and junior surgeons, and is currently Course Director of the Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) course and Faculty of the Definitive Surgical Trauma Care (DSTC) course.

He was awarded the NHG Excellence in Action Award (Individual) in 2016, NHG Outstanding Clinician Award in 2021 and NHG Teaching Award for Senior Doctors in 2021.
