Adj Asst Prof Yung is a specialist in Palliative Medicine with extensive experience across clinical care, education, research, quality improvement, and leadership. Her medical training and career span the UK and Singapore, with qualifications including the MBChB and MRCP (UK), and specialist accreditation in Palliative Medicine. She currently practises in both acute hospital and community settings, serving as a Senior Consultant at Tan Tock Seng Hospital and Medical Director at Dover Park Hospice which gives her a deep and nuanced understanding of the continuum of care.
Adj Asst Prof Yung’s dual roles have afforded her rich insights into the complexities and needs of patients in both acute hospital environments and home-based or hospice settings. Over the years, she has led and mentored numerous quality improvement projects under the Clinical Practice Improvement Program (CPIP), enhancing transitions of care, reducing wait times, and promoting best clinical practices. She has played a key role in service expansion, inter-agency collaborations, and national healthcare workgroups, and regularly leads palliative care tracks at major conferences.
As an educator, she serves as Adjunct Assistant Professor (Adj Asst Prof) at the NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine and clinical lecturer at Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine. She serves as the Program Director for palliative care fellowship training and has received multiple teaching awards for her contributions to medical education. Her academic work centres on qualitative and mixed-methods research in areas such as Goals of Care discussions, spirituality, and palliative education.
Internationally, Adj Asst Prof Yung has benefitted from global exposure through the Ministry of Health’s Health Manpower Development Plan (HMDP), completing fellowships at world-renowned centres such as Princess Margaret Hospital in Toronto and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston. She has also attended and presented at numerous international conferences, including the BMJ International Forum on Quality and Safety, contributing to the global discourse on palliative care and healthcare quality.
