Dr Yong Quek Wei obtained his MBBS from the National University of Singapore in 1987 and is a Member of the Royal College of Physicians. He underwent Internal Medicine speciality training at Alexandra Hospital, followed by advanced specialist training in Cardiology at TTSH/NUH and subspecialty training in Echocardiography at St Vincent's Hospital and Epworth Cardiac Sciences Clinical Institute, Australia under government scholarships. In 2008, he underwent advanced training in Cardiac CT at the German Heart Centre, Munich under MoH/HMDP scholarship. He is a Fellow of Academy of Medicine, Singapore and of Royal College of Physicians of Ireland.

He is also a Board Member of various national bodies/MoH committees viz The National Medical Research Council (Cardiovascular Research), The National Resuscitation Council Comm, various Taskforce & Guidelines Committees for Ministry of Health, Singapore and Senior Examiner for Cardiology Specialist Exit Certification(MoH). He was past Vice Chairman of the Chapter of Cardiologists, Academy of Med and sits on the Panel of the Specialist Training Comm(Cardiology), Specialist Accreditation Board and Board Member of Residency Advisory Comm, MOH, Singapore. He is Advisor to Echo Chapter, SCS and a senior clinical lecturer for NUS Yong Loo Lin and Lee Kong Chian medical schools.

He trains postgraduate cardiologists in Cardiology/echocardiography/CT imaging. He was the former Director of the Echocardiography Lab at TTSH for 20+ years. He has been invited by various Asia Pacific organisations to lecture on hypertension, lipids/cholesterol disorders, preventive cardiology, antithrombotic, cardiac epidemiology, Echocardiography and cardiac CT imaging. He is the Co-director for biennial ECHO SINGAPORE conferences and treasurer of the Echo Chapter, SCS.

He has published numerous research papers in international journals on lipids/cholesterol metabolism, insulin resistance, hypertension, cardiac epidemiology, valves diseases, economics of drug therapies, echocardiography, cardiac CT, vitamins and heart disease risk factors. He is also an External Journal, Research Projects/Clinical trials reviewer for international journals/research institutions and a Principal Local Investigator for international drug trials. He sits on advisory boards of 8 pharmaceutical companies and has won numerous awards in service excellence viz Star Award, National Day Long Service award, Gold medal/Excellence Service Awards(EXSA), SARS & Covid commendation medals in his 38+years of public service/clinical research. He is also an independent expert witness/consultant for complex cases adjudication.
