Biodata

Adj Asst Prof Wong Chen Seong is a Senior Consultant with the Department of Infectious Diseases, National Centre for Infectious Diseases, Tan Tock Seng Hospital. His clinical interests are in the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of HIV, sexually transmitted infections and viral hepatitis, as well as in general community-acquired and healthcare-associated infections.

Adj Asst Prof Wong is a regionally and internationally recognised expert and key opinion leader in the field of HIV, and has a wealth of experience in the management of complex cases of advanced HIV infection, as well as in the management of infectious and non-communicable co-occurring conditions in people living with HIV. He has published more than 50 peer reviewed articles in these fields. He was the previous Head of the NCID/TTSH Clinical HIV Programme, where he implemented key enhancements to HIV clinical services such as the HIV Collaborative Prescribing Clinic, the Geriatric Syndrome Screening Clinic and the HIV Telehealth Service, which was the first direct outpatient care telehealth service in Singapore. Adj Asst Prof Wong is also passionate about HIV and STI prevention, and established the NCID/TTSH HIV Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) Clinic in 2018 – the first such service in the country.

In addition to his clinical role, Adj Asst Prof Wong also serves as the Director of the HIV, Hepatitis and Sexually Transmitted Infections Division of the Communicable Diseases Agency, where he leads his team in formulating and implementing the national public health response against these diseases. Adj Asst Prof Wong is also a dedicated and passionate educator, having served as the immediate past Programme Director of the NHG Health Infectious Disease Residency Programme, as well as the previous Phase 3 Undergraduate Medical Posting Coordinator for NUS.

Adj Asst Prof Wong received his undergraduate medical training from the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore, and underwent Basic Specialist Training in Internal Medicine and Advanced Specialist Training in Infectious Diseases with NHG Health. He is a Member of the Royal College of Physicians (UK), and a Fellow of the Academy of Medicine, Singapore. He has received numerous teaching awards for his efforts and performance as a medical educator, including the NUS Dean's Award for Teaching Excellence, as well as the TTSH Best Clinician-Teacher Award (Junior and Senior) and the TTSH Top 10 Teachers Award (Medical) multiple times. His contributions to clinical service have been recognised through his receipt of team awards such as the Team Recognition Award (Silver) for the NCID/TTSH Clinical HIV Team, as well as national honours such as the Public Administration Medal (Bronze) and the COVID-19 Resilience Medal for his leadership of the COVID outpatient services rendered during the COVID pandemic. For his dedication to providing care to vulnerable populations at risk of, or living with HIV, he was awarded the APCOM Hero Award in 2022; and was also honoured with the NHG Health Young Achievers Award in the same year.
