Dr Sia Wei Tee graduated with an M.B.B.S (Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery) from the National University of Singapore. He then attained a Master of Medicine in Orthopaedic Surgery with the NUS, and the MRCS (Membership of the Royal College of Surgeons) of Edinburgh. Subsequently, he completed his Advanced Specialist Training in Hand Surgery, and received his specialist accreditation as a Hand Surgeon. Dr Sia is currently a Senior Consultant Hand Surgeon in the Department of Hand and Reconstructive Microsurgery.
Dr Sia received the Ministry of Health Human Manpower Development Plan (HMDP) award, to undergo a fellowship in Advanced Hand and Wrist Surgery at Osaka University Hospital in Japan, in 2020-2021. During this fellowship, he gained further experience in arthroscopic surgery (“keyhole surgery" or minimally invasive surgery) and implant arthroplasty (joint replacement) surgery of the hand and wrist. He also gained experience in the use of 3D simulation for surgical planning and design of custom-made instruments and implants, in the treatment of malunion deformities of the wrist and forearm.
Dr Sia's main area of clinical interests include treatment of sports injuries of the wrist and hand, arthroscopic and minimally invasive surgery of the wrist and hand, which includes:
- Arthroscopic wrist ganglionectomy (“keyhole" removal of wrist ganglions)
- Arthroscopic TFCC (triangular fibrocartilage complex) repair
- Arthroscopic SL (scapholunate) ligament repair
- Arthroscopic wrist ligament reconstruction
- Endoscopic carpal tunnel release (Agee technique, with a camera-endoscope-blade device)
- Endoscopic cubital tunnel release (using the Hoffmann camera-endoscope and endoscopic instruments)
- Percutaneous release of trigger fingers
- Percutaneous fixation of scaphoid fractures
