Biodata

Adj A/Prof Vasoo Shawn Sushilan assumed leadership as the Executive Director of Singapore National Centre for Infectious Diseases (NCID) in April 2025. Adj A/Prof Vasoo is a Senior Consultant in the Department of Infectious Diseases at Tan Tock Seng Hospital with over 20 years of experience as a physician. His interests include outbreak preparedness, rapid diagnostics, antimicrobial resistance and bone and joint infections.

He graduated from the National University of Singapore in 2001, was received as a Member of the Royal College of Physicians in 2006, and subsequently completed an Internal Medicine Residency and Infectious Diseases Fellowship at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, followed by two further fellowships in Clinical Microbiology and Orthopaedic Infectious Diseases at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.

Returning to Singapore in 2014 after his post-graduate training, Adj A/Prof Vasoo joined the TTSH ID Department at the then Communicable Disease Centre (CDC), and also led the Infectious Diseases Research Laboratory for 8 years from 2017-2024. He became acting Clinical Director, NCID in June 2019, and the second Clinical Director of NCID from January 2020, at start of the COVID-19 pandemic, till March 2024. He assumed the position of Executive Director, NCID from April 2025.

Besides caring for in and out-patients on the Infectious Diseases Service, Adj A/Prof Vasoo is an educator with the Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine, Nanyang Technological University, and the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine at the National University of Singapore. He serves on several editorial boards including the Singapore Medical Journal, BMC Infectious Diseases, the Journal of Bone and Joint Infection and the Journal of Clinical Microbiology.
