Biodata

Dr Ooi Xi Yan is a Consultant in the Department of Renal Medicine at Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH). She is a renal physician with a strong interest in chronic kidney disease (CKD), particularly in its early detection, prevention, and optimisation of therapies to slow disease progression.

Dr Ooi obtained her Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) from the University of Edinburgh, United Kingdom, in 2012. She trained initially in the National Health Service in Buckinghamshire before joining NHG Health in Singapore, where she completed both the Internal Medicine and Renal Medicine Residency Programmes. Her professional and research interests focus on early CKD care. She believes that early identification and proactive management of kidney disease are essential to improving long-term outcomes and reducing the burden of end-stage kidney failure. In line with this, she was awarded a Health Manpower Development Plan (HMDP) fellowship to train at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, United Kingdom, in population and preventive kidney health.

Dr Ooi has been involved in several national research and public health initiatives. She secured a grant from the Temasek Foundation for the CKD-SUCCEED project, which supports community-based kidney screening using digital urine testing to promote early diagnosis and follow-up care. She is also a co-investigator in SPARKS, a strategic renal research programme at Tan Tock Seng Hospital that builds a large CKD cohort to advance precision medicine. The project aims to identify biomarkers, refine risk stratification, and develop personalised care models that can be applied across the healthcare system.

In addition, Dr Ooi participates in clinical trials including the FIND-CKD, ALPINE, and Bax-Duo Pacific studies, which explore novel treatments and therapeutic approaches in CKD and dialysis care.

Beyond her clinical and research roles, Dr Ooi contributes actively to medical education. She teaches undergraduate students from the Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine and the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, and serves as an Editorial Board Member for the Singapore Society of Nephrology Newsletter. She also participates in professional training and outreach events such as World Kidney Day and primary care masterclasses.

Dr Ooi remains committed to advancing integrated and sustainable kidney care through clinical service, education, and translational research that bridges hospital and community care.
