Dr Mak graduated from the National University of Singapore (NUS) medical school and underwent surgical training with the NHG Health residency programme. He is accredited as a specialist having passed the Joint Speciality Fellowship Examinations in General Surgery in 2022. His clinical interests are in Vascular and Endovascular surgery, including peripheral arterial disease, chronic venous insufficiency, aortic surgery, hemodialysis access surgery and wound care.

Active in medical education, Dr Mak is appointed as a Clinical Lecturer of the NUS YLL School of Medicine and Adj Lecturer of the LKC School of Medicine, receiving NHG Health Teaching Award for Junior Doctors and TTSH Top Twenty Teachers Award. He is also a faculty member of the Post Graduate Year 1 education programme in NHG Health and physician faculty member of the NHG Health General Surgery residency programme.
