Asst Prof Lim Ming Yann obtained his medical graduate degree (MBBS) from the University of Melbourne, Australia.
He did his basic surgical training in the United Kingdom and obtained his MRCS (Royal College of England) in 2003. He developed an interest in the Ear Nose and Throat specialty and gained early experience in several London Hospitals including the Royal Free Hospital and Royal National Ear Nose and Throat Hospital. He later embarked on Ear Nose and Throat (Otolaryngology) surgical residency training in Singapore in 2008. Upon completion of training, he was awarded the College of Surgeons Gold Medal for the best performing advanced surgical trainee in Otolaryngology in the exit examination in 2013 by the Academy of Medicine, Singapore. He was also awarded the prestigious Ministry of Health Scholarship for fellowship training, which was fulfilled on a one year surgical fellowship in Advanced Head and Neck Surgical Oncology (Cancer) in 2014 at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Centre in Houston, United States.
Asst Prof Lim is a Head and Neck surgeon with a subspeciality interest in head and neck tumors and cancers including thyroid, parathyroid, salivary gland, tongue, laryngeal (voice box), sinonasal, nasopharyngeal (nose) and pharyngeal (throat) tumors and cancers. He also deals with ear and skin cancers. He strongly believes that the following principles of head and neck care influence the final clinical outcome of patients and places strict emphasis on these principles in his clinical practice:
Besides clinical care, Asst Prof Lim is actively involved in research and has published widely in several peer reviewed journals. He currently serves on the International Editorial Board of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery (Official peer-reviewed publication of the American Academy of Otolaryngology—Head and Neck Surgery Foundation). He also believes in the education and training of the next generation of doctors. He is currently a member of the Core Faculty for the NHG Health Otolaryngology residency and is actively involved in the surgical training of Otolaryngology residents in NHG Health. He is also active in the teaching of medical students and is Clinical Assistant Professor for National University of Singapore medical school and Adjunct Assistant Professor for the Lee Kong Chian/ NTU medical school.
