Biodata

Dr Liew Huiling is a Senior Consultant in the Department of Endocrinology at Tan Tock Seng Hospital, with subspecialty expertise in diabetes and endocrine disorders. Her practice is grounded in a strong commitment to patient care, medical education, and clinical research. She obtained her Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) from the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore (NUS) in 2007, followed by a Master of Medicine (Internal Medicine) in 2011. That same year, she became a Member of the Royal College of Physicians (Glasgow). In 2018, she completed a Master of Clinical Investigation from NUS, further deepening her research expertise. In 2019, Dr Liew completed a clinical fellowship at the renowned Mike Edmonds Diabetes Foot Unit at King's College Hospital, London—an internationally recognised centre for diabetic foot care. This specialised training has shaped both her clinical focus and research in diabetes-related lower limb complications. She was conferred Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians (Edinburgh) in 2019 and the Academy of Medicine, Singapore, in 2022.

Dr Liew leads several key institutional and national initiatives aimed at preventing diabetes-related amputations. She is the Endocrinology Lead for the Lower Extremity Amputation Prevention Programme (LEAPP) at Tan Tock Seng Hospital, and TTSH Co-Lead for both the NHG Health Diabetes Foot Workgroup and the DEFINITE (Diabetes Foot in Primary and Tertiary Care) Programme. She is also a member of the Expert Workgroup for the 2024 ACG revision on Foot Assessment in People with Diabetes.

In research, Dr Liew serves as co-investigator in studies related to diabetes, diabetic foot disease, and endocrine.

In the area of education, Dr Liew plays an active role in postgraduate and interprofessional training. She is Core Faculty for the Endocrinology Senior Residency Programme, Physician Faculty for NHG Health Internal Medicine Residency, and a Supervisor for the Collaborative Prescribing Programme for advanced practice pharmacist. She also serves as a Clinical Examiner for final-year MBBS students at NUS.

As part of her commitment to patient and professional education, Dr Liew led the development of the NHG Health Diabetes Foot Care Resource Compendium, comprising 17 patient information leaflets, including the flagship "Diabetes Foot Attack" leaflet. She is also part of the Training Faculty for the Transdisciplinary Clinical Diabetes Educators (CDE) Programme, supporting the development of multidisciplinary diabetes care expertise.
