Biodata

Adjunct Associate Professor Lee Cheng Chuan is a Senior Consultant Infectious Diseases Physician at the National Centre for Infectious Diseases and Tan Tock Seng Hospital.

He received his Basic medical degree and Master of Internal Medicine from the National University of Singapore in 1989. He is a member and fellow of the Royal College of Physicians in Edinburgh (1994, 2003), United Kingdom and the Academy of Medicine, Singapore (2000). Adj A/Prof Lee received his specialist training in Singapore and the USA at the Northwestern Memorial Hospital (NMH) of Northwestern University, Chicago, and the Comprehensive AIDS Centre at NMH in 1997.

Besides General Infectious Diseases, Adj A/Prof Lee's special clinical interest is in HIV medicine. He was the lead of the HIV programme at the hospital from 2003-2010 and 2013-2017.

He was actively involved in the outbreak response management of Nipah virus, 2003 SARS-CoV and 2019 COVID-19 infections in Singapore. For his work on SARS in 2003, he was awarded the National Medal of Valour. He received the National Commendation medal and the National Resilience medal for COVID-19 management in 2022.

Apart from clinical practice, Adj A/Prof Lee has a keen interest in teaching. He is an Associate Professor at Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, NUS and Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine, NTU. He has received multiple awards in Education including NUS special recognition awards, NHG senior doctor teaching awards, TTSH Best Teacher Award and TTSH Top 10 Teachers award.

He was President of the Society for Infectious Disease, Singapore from 2008 to 2011. Together with the volunteers, he is an advocate for patients with HIV/AIDS and was the Vice President for Action for AIDS (S) 2011-2013. He was given the Red Ribbon award by AFA in 2016. In 2013, Adj A/Prof Lee was given the National Healthcare Humanity Award.
