Biodata

Adj A/Prof Lavina Bharwani is the Head of Department and Senior Consultant in Medical Oncology at Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH). She holds an Adjunct Associate Professorship at the NTU-Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine and Assistant Professor of Oncology (part-time) at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.

Adj A/Prof Bharwani received her bachelor's degree with honours from Bryn Mawr College, USA. She received her MD from Baylor College of Medicine, USA in 1997. She completed her residency training in Internal Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine and went on to complete her Oncology and Haematology fellowship training at Baylor College of Medicine. During her last year of fellowship, she worked under the direction of Dr Kent Osborne and Dr Rachel Schiff of the Breast Centre at Baylor College of Medicine to study the mechanisms of endocrine resistance in breast cancer tumours via the HER2/EGFR pathways. Adj A/Prof Bharwani joined the faculty as an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of Haematology/Oncology at Baylor College of Medicine in 2003.

Adj A/Prof Bharwani moved to Singapore in 2006 and joined Johns Hopkins Singapore IMC/Tan Tock Seng Hospital as a Consultant in Medical Oncology. She has been the Head of Department of the Medical Oncology Department at Tan Tock Seng Hospital since November 2017. Adj A/Prof Bharwani has been intricately involved in the development and growth of the oncology services at TTSH since 2006 and is leading the development of the Medical Oncology Services throughout the NHG Health Cluster. She has been appointed the Deputy Chair and Medical Oncology Lead for the NHG Health Cancer Institute Protem Committee in February 2025.

Adj A/Prof Bharwani treats patients with all types of solid cancers and her area of interest includes breast cancer and gastrointestinal malignancies. She has been a principal and co-investigator on several Phase II and Phase III clinical trials. Adj A/Prof Bharwani is committed to providing comprehensive and compassionate care to patients undergoing cancer treatment in Singapore.
