Adj Asst Prof Kon is a Senior Consultant in Endocrinology specialising in General Endocrinology, Weight Management (Obesity), and Diabetes at Tan Tock Seng Hospital; and in Reproductive Endocrinology at KKH, the latter as a visiting consultant since 2004. His interests are in diabetes, genetic diabetes, thyroid disorders, menstrual disorders and hypertension due to abnormal hormone function.
Currently, Adj Asst Prof Kon has an academic appointment as Adjunct Assistant Professor at Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine, NTU. He is actively involved in teaching in the NHG Health Endocrinology Residency Programme.
Adj Asst Prof Kon completed his medical education at the University of London/Royal Free Hospital School of Medicine, obtaining his MBBS in 1989. From 2000 to 2002, he trained as a fellow at the University of Chicago Thyroid Unit, under the mentorships of Prof Leslie Degroot and Prof Samuel Refetoff. He has been a Fellow of the Academy of Medicine, Singapore (FAMS) since 2003, Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians, Edinburgh, UK (FRCP) since 2007, and Fellow of the American College of Endocrinology (FACE) since 2015. Adj Asst Prof Kon had served as President of the Endocrine Metabolic Society of Singapore (2014-2016) and Chairman of the Chapter of Endocrinology at the Academy of Medicine, Singapore (2013-2015). He has published extensively in both local and international endocrine journals, focusing on topics related to diabetes, genetic diabetes, thyroid disorders and complex endocrine cases. He is on the reviewer board of several prominent international endocrinology journals. Adj Asst Prof Kon received the NHG Health Teaching Awards for Senior Doctors in 2021 and 2024.
