Asst Prof Chia graduated in 2003 with MBChB from the University of Glasgow and obtained her MRCP (United Kingdom) from the Royal College of Physicians in 2009. She has been accredited as a specialist in Palliative Medicine by Specialist Accreditation Board, Singapore since 2014. She is currently a Senior Consultant at Tan Tock Seng Hospital.

Asst Prof Chia has been actively involved in the education of medical students, medical officers, residents and senior residents. She is currently the Palliative Module Lead for undergraduate students for Lee Kong Chien School of Medicine. Additionally, she is the Education Deputy Director for the Palliative Care Centre of Excellence in Research and Education (PalC) and is a Module Lead for the Holistic Palliative Care Programme (postgraduate and flexi-masters) at the Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine.
