Biodata

Dr Chan Lai Gwen graduated from NUS in 2001 and trained in Internal Medicine and Psychiatry. She proceeded to complete a Clinical Fellowship Program in Neuropsychiatry of Traumatic Brain Injury at Sunnybrook Hospital and HIV Psychiatry at St Michael’s Hospital, both in Toronto, Canada. Her journey in clinical research began with the awarding of the NHG Health Clinician Leadership in Research where she studied the long-term psychiatric outcomes of patients with Traumatic Brain Injury. She completed her PhD program with NTU-LKC School of Medicine in 2023 investigating the non-motor outcomes of stroke.

In her clinical practice, she sees patients with psychiatric presentations of stroke, brain injury and Parkinson’s Disease. In hospital leadership, she is the Chairman of the Patient Reported Outcome Measures (PROMs) Subcommittee and is a member of the Clinical Value and Quality Assurance Committee. In education, she is a faculty member of the National Psychiatry Residency Program and is an examiner for both undergraduate and postgraduate psychiatry examinations. She is also an awardee of the TTSH Top 20 Educators award. In research, she has previously been awarded the National Medical Research Council Research Training Fellowship and New Investigator grants.

Dr Chan uses her expertise for patients with concurrent psychiatric, medical, and neurological complexities and believes that these complexities should and can be simplified for both healthcare providers and for patients and their caregivers. She also believes in active partnership with other specialists, community providers, and family members in the entire care journey, with the aim of seeing patients and their families thrive even in the midst of challenging chronic diseases.
