Dr Muhamad Zulhakim is a Family Physician at NHG Woodlands Polyclinic, where he provides comprehensive primary care. He earned his Doctor of Medicine (MD) in 2018 from Duke-NUS Medical School, following his undergraduate studies at the National University of Singapore (NUS), where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science (Pharmacy) with Honours in 2014. His interest in holistic care and community medicine led him to pursue postgraduate training in Family Medicine, culminating in the award of the Master of Medicine (Family Medicine) from NUS in 2022. He received full accreditation from the Family Physicians Accreditation Board in 2023.
During his residency in Family Medicine, Dr Zul underwent training across multiple medical disciplines, including general surgery, emergency medicine, orthopaedics, geriatrics, internal medicine, obstetrics and gynaecology, and paediatrics. He has also participated in international medical missions, such as his volunteer work with Mercy Ships. This diverse exposure has equipped him with a broad skill set to effectively manage complex medical cases and enriched his experience in global health and humanitarian care.
Dr Zul’s clinical interests are wide-ranging, with a particular focus on managing chronic diseases and promoting mental health in the primary care setting. He is a member of the Psychiatry Specialty Advisory Group (SAG), which contributes to the development of integrated mental health services in community settings. He also runs the Health and Mind Services (HMS) clinic, a dedicated platform for the management of common mental health conditions such as anxiety, depression, and adjustment disorders, helping patients achieve better overall well-being through accessible, stigma-free care.
Beyond the consultation room, Dr Zul is also involved in primary care research and medical education. He presented his work at national platforms such as the Singapore Health and Biomedical Congress and the Duke-NUS Research Symposium. He has explored a range of topics such as healthcare utilisation among middle-aged adults, improving healthcare worker well-being, and leveraging mobile technology to support patients with chronic illnesses.
A strong believer in lifelong learning and mentorship, Dr Zul is actively involved in teaching medical students and trainees in Family Medicine. He was recognised with the National Healthcare Group Teaching Award for Junior Doctors in 2024.
