Dr Ramasamy Jaganmohan Raja is a distinguished Family Physician and healthcare leader with over two decades of diverse medical experience across India and Singapore. Currently serving as an Associate Consultant at NHG Polyclinics in Singapore since 2017, Dr Raja brings an exceptional blend of clinical expertise, academic achievements, and healthcare innovation.
He also held the role of Deputy Head at NHG Woodlands Polyclinic from January 2016 to August 2022. His commitment to primary care excellence and clinical leadership has made a significant impact in team-based healthcare models.
Dr Raja obtained his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) in 1996 from the prestigious Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education & Research (JIPMER) in Pondicherry, India. He further pursued an impressive array of postgraduate qualifications including a Master of Medicine (Family Medicine) and multiple Graduate Diplomas in areas such as Geriatric Medicine, Dermatology, Mental Health, and Family Medicine from the National University of Singapore (NUS). His academic trajectory is notable for its breadth, encompassing additional postgraduate certifications and training in maternal and child health, hospital management, sports medicine and palliative care from institutions such as the National Institute of Health and Family Welfare (India) and the Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore.
Beginning his professional journey as a Junior Resident in India, Dr Raja served in Indian Army in the rank of Major in the Army Medical Corps from the year 2000 to 2005. His leadership as Chief Medical Officer at Sri Bala Medical Centre, Coimbatore, India preceded his move to Singapore.
Since joining NHG Polyclinics in 2007 he has consistently advanced within NHG Polyclinics. His wide-ranging experience includes family medicine, chronic disease management, urgent care, and procedural training. He has taken on various clinical and leadership roles, playing an instrumental part in several clinical practice improvement projects (CPIPs) aimed at optimizing care delivery.
Dr Raja holds academic positions as a Clinical Lecturer at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine (NUS) and Clinical Skills Facilitator at the Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine (NTU). He is also a Minor Procedure Trainer at NHG Polyclinics and a faculty member involved in collaborative prescribing initiatives for pharmacists under MOH, Singapore, demonstrating his commitment to interdisciplinary collaboration in healthcare.
Dr Raja has actively contributed to research, with numerous abstracts and posters presented at the Singapore Health & Biomedical Congress (SHBC) and the World Organization of Family Doctors Conference (WONCA).
He has received the Health Manpower Development Plan (HMDP) Awards by MOH, Singapore in the year 2016 and 2024, recognizing his contributions to healthcare collaboration and advanced clinical training. He participated in training of team-based care at NUKA Health System in Alaska, USA and Comprehensive Management of Sports Injuries and Musculoskeletal Disorders at University College Hospital (NHS) in London, UK.
An active member of the College of Family Physicians Singapore, Dr Ramasamy Jaganmohan Raja continues to contribute to the enhancement of clinical care and medical education and is a key contributor to the advancement of primary healthcare in Singapore.
