Asst Prof Tung Yew Cheong is a Family Physician, Senior Consultant, at NHG Polyclinics. He graduated from the National University of Singapore with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degree in 1996 and subsequently completed his postgraduate training in Family Medicine, obtaining his Masters in Medicine (MMED) Family Medicine in 2003. He was admitted as a Fellow of the College of Family Physicians (FCFP) Singapore in 2009 and Fellow of the Academy of Medicine (AMS) Singapore in 2017. He has been on the Singapore Registry of Family Physicians since 2012.
To further enhance his expertise, Asst Prof Tung was awarded the Ministry of Health (MOH) Health Manpower Development Plan Award (Individual), which allowed him to complete an advanced clinical attachment in Community Geriatrics at the Royal Adelaide Hospital in 2007. Asst Prof Tung contributes actively to training future medical professionals and has been an examiner for the Masters in Medicine (Family Medicine) postgraduate examinations under the Division of Graduate Medical Studies, Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine since 2015.
With a strong commitment to patient care, he has developed a keen interest in quality improvement and patient safety, making significant contributions to the field. As a distinguished expert, he actively teaches at the Institute of Healthcare Quality (NHG Health), and lectures at Singhealth Duke-NUS Institute of Patient Safety and Quality and NUS Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health.
In the area of leadership, Asst Prof Tung has taken on key administrative roles. He previously served as Head of NHG Toa Payoh Polyclinic, where he was instrumental in transforming care delivery and improving patient outcomes. Currently, he holds the appointment of NHG Health Group Chief Quality Officer and oversees quality and patient safety, focusing on value-based care and clinical excellence.
Recognising his outstanding contributions to public healthcare, Asst Prof Tung has received accolades over the years which include the Healthcare Humanity Award in 2012, the National Day Awards (Long Service Medal) in 2022 and National Awards Public Administration Medal (Bronze) (COVID-19) in 2023. These recognitions reflect his dedication to advancing medical excellence and improving patient outcomes.
Recognising his outstanding contributions to public healthcare, Asst Prof Tung has received The Public Administration Medal (Bronze) in 2025.
