A/Prof Karen Ng is the Chief Executive Officer of NHG Polyclinics and concurrently Chief, Primary Care, NHG Population Health. She graduated from the National University of Singapore with an MBBS degree in 1996 and a Master of Medicine (Family Medicine) in 1999. She is Fellow of the College of Family Physicians, Singapore and Fellow of the Academy of Medicine, Singapore. A/Prof Karen Ng is registered with the Family Medicine Accreditation Board.
As CEO, NHG Polyclinics, A/Prof Karen Ng drives preventive health efforts to achieve positive clinical outcomes. In partnership with GPs and community partners, she leads Healthier SG efforts to anchor care in the community. Beyond Healthier SG, her leadership in maternal and child programmes exemplify her commitment to proactive and preventive care. Under her stewardship, NHG Polyclinics is at the forefront of digital and tele-health, harnessing AI innovations to improve patient care.
Prior to her appointment as CEO, A/Prof Karen Ng was NHG Polyclinics’ Deputy Chief Executive Officer from July 2022, and Director then Chief of Clinical Services since 2017. During her tenure in Clinical Services, she played a pivotal role in driving clinical strategies to support primary care transformation and hospital care integration efforts within NHG Polyclinics, across NHG Health and at the national level. In driving these efforts, she leveraged the experience from her earlier roles as NHG Polyclinics’ Regional Director (2014-17) overseeing polyclinics and care integration with hospitals and GPs in Central and North Singapore, as well as Head of NHG Ang Mo Kio Polyclinic (2006-15), where she continues to see her patients as Senior Consultant, Family Physician up till today.
As Chief, Primary Care, NHG Population Health, A/Prof Karen Ng plays a pivotal role in the collaboration between primary care and hospitals in NHG Health, and with GPs and community partners to care for residents in Central and North Singapore.
Beyond clinical practice, A/Prof Karen Ng serves as Adjunct Associate Professor at the Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine and drives family medicine research and education.
Recognising her outstanding contributions to public healthcare, A/Prof Karen Ng was awarded the Public Administration Medal (Bronze) in 2021, Public Administration Medal (Silver) (COVID-19) in 2022 and the National Day Award, (Long Service Medal) from the Ministry of Health in 2023. For her contributions to NHG Health, A/Prof Karen Ng received the NHG Team Recognition Award 2019 (Silver) for “The digital transformation of Primary Care” and “NHG Polyclinics Chronic Care Plan”; NHG Team Recognition Award 2017 (Gold) for “Tele-ECG” and (Silver) for “Right Siting of chronic disease patients from Ang Mo Kio Polyclinic to Raffles Medical Group”. She received the NHG Outstanding Citizen Award in 2015, NHG Excellence in Action Award (Leadership) in 2012 and NHG Quality Pillar Award in 2008. These awards reflect her dedication to advancing family medicine and improving population health outcomes.
