Dr Donna Tan Mui Ling is the Deputy Director of Clinical Services and Family Physician, Associate Consultant at NHG Polyclinics. Dr Tan graduated from National University of Singapore with an MBBS in 1995. She subsequently completed her Master of Medicine (Family Medicine) in 2000 and obtained a Post Graduate Diploma in Family Practice Dermatology from the National University of Singapore in 2007.
As part of her professional development, Dr Tan has developed expertise in managing complex patients with diabetes and obesity complicated with bio-psycho-social conditions. She has a special interest in obesity, musculoskeletal and physical health, diabetic foot care, diabetes and multiple co-morbidities. She focuses on integrating comprehensive and holistic patient care that involves physician, nursing, allied health professionals and health coaches.
A recognised expert in Family Medicine, Dr Tan is actively involved in various leadership roles. She currently serves as a Clinical Tutor for the Graduate Diploma in Family Medicine. Additionally, she co-chairs the MOH Primary Care MSK workgroup, NHG Physical Health & Rehabilitation Steering Committee, and the NHG Tiered Weight Management Workgroup under Diabetes and Metabolic Steering Committee, as well as lead the Health Promotion and Preventive Care department, where she oversees and develops crucial initiatives in clinical models and healthcare development.
Throughout her career, Dr Tan has taken on key leadership roles, including serving as Head of NHG Yishun Polyclinic (2003-2005) and spearheading and establishing primary care Allied Health services as part of trans-disciplinary team-based care in NHG Polyclinics (2010 to date). She nurtures and creates sustainable platforms for the professional development of allied health professionals in areas relevant to primary care and related healthcare administration.
In her current role as Deputy Director of Clinical Services, she is instrumental in developing expanded and integrative care models beyond multi-professional teams to multi-agency collaborations in health and social dimensions of patient care.
In recognition of her contributions to public healthcare, Dr Tan has received numerous accolades, including the MOH Public Administration Medal (Long Service Award) in 2024, the MOH Public Administration Medal (Bronze) COVID-19 in 2022, NHG Outstanding Citizenship Award in 2022, and various NHG Team Recognition Awards. Her work in innovative healthcare programs such as the Rapid Assessment and Physiotherapy for Patients in Need (RAPID), Tiered Weight Management and Lighter Life obesity intervention for patients with chronic diseases in primary care has earned her multiple quality improvement awards.
