Dr Soon Shok Wen Winnie is a Family Physician, Senior Consultant at NHG Ang Mo Kio Polyclinic. She graduated from the National University of Singapore with an MBBS degree in 1992 and subsequently completed postgraduate training in Master of Medicine (Family Medicine) in 1998 and the fellowship with the College of Family Physicians in 2003.
Dr Soon has developed a keen interest in mental and behavioral health in primary care, making significant contributions in this field. Dr Soon is a coauthor of the Healthier SG Major Depressive Disorder and Generalized Anxiety Disorder care protocol and an active member of the ACE guidelines on Major Depressive Disorder. She was awarded the MOH Human Manpower Development Program award in 2018 and led a team to Seattle to look at developing behavioural health in primary care.
Beyond clinical practice, Dr Soon is a passionate educator and mentor. She serves as a tutor on medical pedagogy for the College of Family Physicians fellowship program. She is also a member of the Family Medicine National Examination Committee and the chief examiner of the Applied Knowledge Test for Family Medicine, ensuring that the next generation of healthcare professionals are well- equipped.
In the area of leadership, Dr Soon has taken on key administrative roles. She was previously the Doctor in charge of NHG Ang Mo Kio Polyclinic (2000-2004) and Deputy Chairperson of the Workplace Health Promotion (NHG Polyclinics) (2002-2004) where she was instrumental in establishing workplace health in NHG Polyclinics and ensuring the smooth transition of NHG Ang Mo Kio Polyclinic to a new location. Currently, she oversees the psychologists and medical social workers as the clinical advisor. She is also the Programme director of the Health and Mind and Advanced Care Planning in NHG Polyclinics and the Co-lead of NCASP (NHG Care alliance for Social Prescribing) in NHG.
Recognising her outstanding contributions to public healthcare, Dr Soon received accolades such as the College of Family Physician Distinguished Educator award (2024) and the MOH National Day Awards Long service award (2024). These recognitions reflect her dedication to advancing medical excellence and improving patient outcomes.
