Dr Doraisamy Gowri is a Senior Consultant and Family Physician at NHG Woodlands Polyclinic. She graduated from the National University of Singapore in 1992 with an MBBS degree and went on to complete postgraduate training, obtaining her Master of Medicine in Family Medicine in 1997. With a strong commitment to continuous learning and clinical excellence, Dr Gowri was awarded the prestigious HMDP Award in 2004, where she undertook an advanced clinical attachment in Hypertension in Primary Care at the Peart Rose Clinic in London. In 2005, she became a Fellow of the College of Family Physicians Singapore. Throughout her career, Dr Gowri has developed a keen interest in family medicine and chronic disease management. She has contributed significantly to primary care transformation, championing integration between polyclinics and general practitioners (GPs).
In addition to her clinical roles, Dr Gowri is a passionate educator and examiner. She has been an examiner for the Master of Medicine (Family Medicine) and Graduate Diploma in Family Medicine exams for over 15 years. She has also been a tutor and examiner for the Fellowship Program at the College of Family Physicians Singapore, nurturing the next generation of family physicians.
Dr Gowri has taken on several important leadership and administrative roles within NHG Polyclinics. As the Head of NHG Woodlands Polyclinic from 1998 to 2014, she was responsible for overseeing the clinic's operations, service quality, financial performance, and human resource management. Later, as Director of the Primary Care Transformation Office, she was instrumental in redesigning care models, establishing GP networks, and being involved in healthcare integration initiatives across the region. She currently serves as the Co-Chair of the NHG Polyclinics ESS Oversight Committee, ensuring organizational readiness for clinical audits and standards compliance.
Her leadership style is marked by a strategic focus on quality improvement, and sustainability in healthcare delivery. Dr Gowri’s outstanding contributions have been recognized through multiple awards, including the NHG Excellence in Action Award (Leadership Category) in 2013, the HMDP Team-Based Award for Improving Primary Care in 2015, and national awards such as the Public Administration Medal (Bronze) and COVID-19 Resilience Medal in 2023. Beyond her professional life, Dr Gowri enjoys staying active, listening to music, reading, watching dramas, and taking short vacations with her family. Her dedication to her patients, her colleagues, and the community continues to make a lasting impact on Singapore's primary care landscape.
