Biodata

Assistant Professor Surej John is the Head of the Department and a Senior Consultant in Psychological Medicine at Khoo Teck Puat Hospital (KTPH). He graduated in 2002 with a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) from Kasturba Medical College in India. Dr. Surej specialised in Psychiatry in Edinburgh, Scotland, where he obtained his Membership of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (MRCPsych) in 2007.
 
He completed his Advanced Specialty Training in Psychiatry at the National University Hospital in Singapore and received certification from the Specialist Accreditation Board of the Ministry of Health, becoming a registered psychiatrist in 2011. Additionally, in the same year, he earned a Diploma in Clinical Psychiatry from the Royal College of Physicians and the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland.
 
Dr. Surej is deeply committed to medical student education and has received multiple teaching awards, including the National University of Singapore Dean's Award for Teaching Excellence, which he has won three times. He had also served as the education lead for both the National University of Singapore (NUS) and Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine (LKC) for the department. Furthermore, he had received the Service Champion Award from KTPH for his outstanding clinical service delivery.
 
As the Clinical Director of the Assessment and Shared Care Team (ASCAT-KTPH), Dr. Surej focuses on integrating community mental health services with hospital psychiatry. His areas of expertise include the treatment of complex and treatment-resistant depressive disorders, bipolar disorder, and adult ADHD. He has a particular interest in Psychoendocrinology and Neuropsychiatry. Dr. Surej is also a Fellow of the Academy of Medicine, Singapore, which highlights his dedication to advancing the field of psychiatry.
