Biodata
Dr Robin Som is a General Surgery Consultant at Khoo Teck Puat Hospital. He obtained his medical degree from Imperial College in London, UK. He undertook specialty training in general and upper gastrointestinal surgery with the London School of Surgery, culminating in Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of England (FRCS Eng).
Dr Som then travelled to Vancouver, Canada, for a fellowship in acute care and trauma surgery. He had the opportunity to spend eight weeks at Groote Schuur Hospital, Cape Town, as a visiting fellow. He returned to the UK for a fellowship in upper gastrointestinal surgery, where he received training in robotic surgery. Dr Som was then appointed consultant in general and upper gastrointestinal surgery in Galway University Hospital, Ireland.
Outside of the operating room, Dr Som is involved in medical leadership and education. He completed an MBA at Warwick Business School, for which he was awarded a merit. He is an Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) instructor and recently authored several chapters for an FRCS viva book.
Dr Som’s hobbies include writing, cinema, board games and watching sports.
