Dr Lau is a Consultant Urological Surgeon at Khoo Teck Puat Hospital. He is UK-Fellowship trained in Andrology and Reconstructive Urology. He holds a MHPE from Maastricht University, and an MBA (with distinction) from University of Northumbria in Newcastle, UK.

He is recognised within his professional community as the Vice President of the Singapore Urological Association (SUA) and the Honorary Secretary of the Society of Men's Health Singapore (SMHS). In 2022, he organised Urofair, the annual congress of SUA, as the Scientific co-Chairperson. In 2023, he led the SUA Amendment of Constitution process.

He is a key opinion leader in penile oncology, genitourethral reconstruction, male sexual dysfunction, and Minimally invasive surgical therapy (MIST) for prostate enlargement. He has written several publications and produced surgical video presentations on these subjects. He is also a proponent of service innovation, having introduced low-intensity shockwave therapy (2018), Rezūm ablation of prostate (2021), and UroLift (2022) to KTPH for the treatment of men with sexual dysfunction and prostate problems in the northern region of Singapore.

For his excellence in clinical education, he was thrice a recipient of the NHG Teaching Excellence Award, Postgraduate level, in 2014, 2017, and 2022.
